Can I watch my child during their lesson?

Only ONE adult is permitted to accompany their child/children. There are chairs distanced around poolside for accompanying adults (one for each swimmer in the lesson).

Phones are not permitted on poolside and parents are not able to take photographs during the lesson.

Siblings of swimmers are not permitted on poolside (exception for babies/young children under 3 who are able to sit on adult’s knee).

Remove shoes or ask at reception for blue overshoes for when entering poolside.

What should my child wear for their lesson?

You can choose what you would like your child to wear for their lesson however we advise costumes that costumes are appropriate (ie no fancy dress/loose parts).

Cygnet Swimming will provide the appropriate swimming aids for the lesson.

ALL children are advised to wear goggles during their lessons.

What lessons levels do you offer?

Click here for information about the lessons we offer and availability.

How much are the lessons?

Lessons run in blocks of 10 weeks with one 30 minute lesson each week. Each block costs £130 however we offer a discount for families who book siblings into the lessons. The first lesson you book with Cygnet is always free as a ‘taster’ for the children.

Do parents get into the water?

Parents DO NOT get into the water with their children. There will be a fully qualified and experienced swimming teacher in the water teaching the children at all times. Parents are asked to sit on the poolside to spectate (only ONE adult permitted).

How many children will be in the lesson?

At Mercure Haydock Fitness Club there are no more than 4 children in each class. The club is open to the public and there may be members of the club, hotel guests or paid customers in the swimming pool however Cygnet Swimming Lessons have their own area of the pool and will not be disturbed during the lessons.

Will the children receive a certificates/award?

At Cygnet Swimming Lessons we follow the STA International Learn to Swim Programme.

All Cygnet swimmers will receive an STA Success Tracker booklet. At the end of each block of 10 (10 weeks) the booklet will be signed at the appropriate level and handed back out to the children. Parents/carers will be emailed the corresponding certificate. Hard copies of the certificate can be purchased through the STA (link is sent via email along with the certificate).

What time do I arrive for my lesson?

We ask that you arrive for your lesson approximately 10 minutes before your actual lesson is due to begin. After getting changed, please make your way onto poolside and wait to be called into the lesson by the teacher.

At Mercure Haydock fitness club, children are asked to walk around the pool towards the teacher who will safely support the children into the pool. Accompanying adults can then take a seat on one of the chairs around poolside.

When are the lessons?

At Mercure Haydock fitness club, lessons run on: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 4pm-7:30pm and on a Sunday morning 9am-12:30pm.

How do I know what lesson my child is best suited for?

Please click here for information about the different lessons we offer. If you are still unsure, please get in touch and we will be able to discuss this with you.

There are no spaces available for my child at their level. What do I do?

If there is no availability for the level that you need we advise that you keep an eye out on our social media (Facebook & Instagram) where we post when we have spaces to be filled. There is also the option to be added to a waiting list.

It is important to only book a lesson at the appropriate level for your child. If you book a lesson at a level that is not suited to your child (eg your child requires swimming aids but has been booked into a lesson where children are expected to swim independently) then we will have no choice but to remove your child from that space.
